Byakai Byakai is a character in Control Sequence who is a vigilante, former member of the Liberation Sector and the son of the Forsaken Ten’s member, Mordecai Torayuki.

He manipulates powerful bursts of shearing wind using the Gale Claws taken from his father, using them in conjunction with his Drive.

Basic Character Profile[]

Purity and Sin[]

His status as a son of the Forsaken Ten make him a target for assasination, but because there are no Destroyers active in Kagutsuchi, it falls to others to deal with him.

Primordial Awakenings[]

Character History[]

Byakai grew up as the son of the Rogue Sector Leader, Mordecai Torayuki. He never knew his mother or if he had any siblings, as the Third War’s events split their family apart with Mordecai taking custody of Byakai and raising him in Yurisa. Byakai took to his father as the only parental figure he knew, and idolized him.

After the Third War was over, Mordecai put Byakai in the LS to be raised alongside an orphaned Nicaiah, with the young cat beastkin thinking of her as an older sister. But she would often boss him around and treat him as her mock soldier in her training exercises to become a future Commander, although Byakai didn’t seem to be upset by it.

For years, he would train with his father and Imyo in the practice of using his claws and Drive with the “Boundless Claw” style that Mordecai perfected during the Third War while sparing with Imyo, dedicating most of his time to it. When Komyo Amatera was brought in to the Liberation Sector after the Siege and Calamity of Izanagi took place, Byakai was among one of her first friends. Mordecai often left on missions, and so Byakai spent the majority of his time honing his style and spending time with Nicaiah and Komyo.

However, one day his father went out on a mission for Sector 51 that Mordecai knew would take more time than usual. This was a mission that involved the retrieval of a precious artifact from the War entrusted to him and what created the Gale Claws. Byakai, frustrated of being left in the dark every time his father had to leave, was told to wait for him and that Mordecai would disclose the importance of his role--and by extent Byakai's--in the world once he could be certain of the object's security. Although Byakai had complete faith in his father and waited eagerly for weeks on end for his return, this turned into months. He was met with the sorrowful news by the Liberation Sector that his father's life was taken by a Sequence Destroyer during his mission to retrieve the artifact. Crushed, Byakai remained in denial and lost the passion he had for their family's legacy, feeling as though a piece of himself died that day.

While he remained with the Liberation Sector for a time after this, he was growing distant from them and tried to discover what his father was trying to accomplish while still honing his technique with the "Boundless Claw" style. During his ventures he heard rumors that the Destroyer used a similar style of fighting to his father, and became focused on locating this individual in the hopes of avenging him.

Plot[]

Control Sequence Prologue[]

Months before the beginning of Control Sequence, and years following Mordecai perishing to the Sequence Destroyers after the Phantom Operations, Byakai ultimately left the Sector and refused to work under the new management of Sector 51. He located his father's notes he left behind for his son, and after this, Byakai made clear his doubts with their new structure and beliefs which pushed him to the point the moral compass he lived by under his father's teachings convinced him that he could no longer condone working alongside them. He would depart without telling the others, leaving a letter behind telling them of his personal discharge, directing words towards the Heirarch to be a dangerous ruler consumed by delusions that the people would one day suffer for.

The cat beastkin became a vigilante under a title and hid his appearance in public, while he hoped to gain the information he was looking for. He would go on to battle several smaller Irregularities in the hopes of eventually locating the Sequence Destroyer responsible for his father's erasure and swore to find the secrets he took with him to the grave.

He did eventually locate the Destroyer who he believed responsible, and almost lost his life in this conflict with her, but a third party affiliate with LS was able to help him pull through this situation.

He does seem to already know Nex, the two having crossed paths before, have a mutual anger towards the NOS, and he even warns Nex to stay away from LS as much as he would the NOS. He also doesn't blame Sylar for being their enemy, though he does think he's a bit extreme with his retaliations against them.

Control Sequence[]

Byakai takes place in many of the events in Kagutsuchi.

As of the beginning of Control Sequence, Byakai is hardly considered ally to anyone, and prefers to keep to himself in his mission, maintaining distance from other oppressors to the NOS like the mercenary group "Red Thunder", and the lone "White Demon". The other members of LS try to get him to return, even his friends, however Byakai seems determined to deny everyone.

Personality[]

Byakai is a man of action, keeping chatter short and focused. He is generally a calm individual, and like his father, he holds a heart for the people, displaying kindness when it's needed and tries to do the right thing. For that reason, he interferes with any situation that he deems immoral. But he’s rather set in his beliefs and tends to ignore those who he feels are wrong in their way of thinking, being extremely passionate, but if an individual earns his respect he will take their criticism to heart. In actuality, he’s a very genuine individual who desires to help others like his father did.

A conflicting topic that can bother him however is the Liberation Sector and the Sequence Destroyers. And Byakai does have difficulty with believing in things that aren’t tangible and is a very large skeptic of concepts that lack tangible proof.

He holds an immense amount of pride as his father's son, and as a beastkin, he doesn't tolerate discrimination by any means, and tends to view all people as equals regardless of their species.

Appearance[]

Byakai’s genes make him a cat beastkin of full nature, having a muzzle, twin tails and the build of a nekomata. Byakai's eyes are amber-colored.

The beastkin's body is covered in bright white fur that has distinct black stripes along it, his tails and ears. Tan tones cover his muzzle and belly while he has a fluffy mane of hair that is a bit wavy and primarily black like his stripes. His hands and feet are paws with a set of claws, though he is capable of holding objects and stands on his hindlegs at times.

Byakai's attire consists of a blue jacket with tiger stripes thrown over his body to suit his own appearance, and sleeves of the kaka design. The jacket runs length down to just above the floor and has a small slit for his twin tails. A hood sits in the back with black embroidery and is complete with sockets for his ears.

Powers, weapons and abilities[]

In Lore[]

Byakai is a practitioner of his father's style he discovered while training with Imyo called Boundless Claw. He has not perfected it, but it revolves around the concept of rushdown strikes with perfect awareness of enemy movement to predict every move they'll make and strike from a direction they don't suspect, countering with a flurry of blows before they can recover themselves.
